As a Volunteer Coordinator, my role is to work with each hub to co‑produce meaningful, accessible volunteering opportunities in the hubs themselves that reflect what local people want to offer and what each hub needs. To achieve this, I will be joining events like the Conversation
Cafes, and talking to people involved in the hubs about their hopes, thoughts, and questions about what volunteering can look like in the hubs.
I support anyone who’s interested in getting involved - whether you’re brand new to volunteering or returning after a break. This might include talking through what you’re looking for, helping you understand what a role might involve, exploring the support you might need, or guiding you through the steps of getting started. I am working alongside the hubs to make sure the volunteering experience is positive, supported, and sustainable for everyone. You’re welcome to email or call me to arrange a chat, and I’m also very happy to meet face‑to‑face.

The York CVS Supported Volunteering Project, in collaboration with the Connecting our City Yor Community Wellbeing Hubs, offers tailored support to individuals who are interested in volunteering but would like assistance to be ready to volunteer or to access and sustain volunteering opportunities.
The support Sadie offers can include helping people work out what they might like to do, identifying what support they might need, understanding the expectations of them as a volunteer, building up confidence in the skills they have, going together to visit volunteer placements, arranging and engaging in group volunteering opportunities together, or help filling out forms or preparing for a first meeting.
Sadie is happy to meet and support people in a way that suits them, whether this is by arranging an appointment or being introduced for an initial chat when Sadie is at one of the wellbeing hubs. Sadie can normally be found at the Acomb Hub on Monday mornings 9.00am to 12.00 noon and the Clarence Street Hub on Friday mornings 10.00am to 1.00pm. If possible, please contact Sadie in advance to ensure avaliability.

We were delighted to welcome a government minister to York CVS to see first-hand the impact of our work around the Yor Community Wellbeing Hubs. During the visit, we spoke about how co-production has shaped the hubs from the very beginning; from initial design conversations through to how services are delivered day-to-day.
We highlighted the contribution of people with lived experience, partners, staff, and volunteers who have worked together to create welcoming, community-led spaces. The minister was particularly interested in how co-production influences decision making and how we continue to share power with the community. It was a valuable opportunity to showcase what makes the hubs unique: services built with people, not just for them. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to making the hubs what they are today.
We’ve been meeting with partner organisations to explore further development of the hubs’ outdoor space.
Ideas discussed include: Additional seating to encourage connection and conversation A sensory planter garden to create a calming, therapeutic environment Making the space more accessible and inclusive The vision is to create an outdoor area that supports wellbeing, connection, and reflection designed with the community at its heart. Further co-design conversations will take place as plans progress. If you’d like to be involved in shaping the space, we’d love to hear from you.
We recently hosted a co-design session focused on shaping the new Oak Room at the Yor Community Wellbeing Hub (Acomb Garth). Community members, staff, and partners came together to share ideas about how the space should feel, look, and function.
Conversations explored:
The energy in the room was fantastic, with thoughtful and creative suggestions that will directly influence the final design. This session is another example of our commitment to ensuring our environments reflect the needs and voices of the people who use them. We’re excited to share updates as the Oak Room develops.
We recently met with York Youth Council to gather young people’s views on the Yor Community Wellbeing Hubs website. The discussion was incredibly insightful. Young people shared honest feedback about what works well, what could be clearer, and how the website could better reflect their needs.
As a result, we have:
This is co-production in action — ensuring that young voices influence how we communicate, share information, and make services accessible. We’re really looking forward to continuing this partnership.
